Hey everyone!
Brad Williams has done a short interview with Donald, who is currently doing a Community Project with Williams OT as part of his studies at Charles Darwin University.
So more about the project… They’re looking into increasing the passing rate of Driver Learners with Autism going for their L plates. Donald is going out and touching base with the community by partnering with Williams OT to also get to know more about Drivers with Autism.
BUT WE NEED YOUR HELP!
Check out the video below to watch the full interview of Brad with Donald and find out more about the study.
We’re looking forward to the finished project and to share it with all of you guys! Very exciting for everyone in the community.
However, right now, we are seeking the community’s involvement.
We want to know the lived experience of families when their child with autism is going for their L’s? What are the issues? What are the stressors? Where do you need help?
And we also want to hear from people working in the industry of supporting people to gain their L’s, and from people that assist 15 to 25 years olds living with moderate to high functioning Autism. Can you share some wisdom and do you want to be involved?
If this is you, please comment below and the team will be in contact.

one of our instructor mentioned the music playing in the background caused problems for autistic people watching finding it difficult to concentrate I didn’t have a problem because of my hearing impairment, I hadn’t realised there was music.
hi Brad i am an Occupational Therapist who was clinical lead in an ASD agency in Adelaide for 16 years, and saw a number of people with ASD both in this setting and privately, who had ASD and wanted to drive, or were experiencing difficulties when driving. I developed some resources a few years ago for a driving instructor to assist in their understanding of ASD
I am also the mother of an adult with ASD, and an aunt to another, both of whom had their licences so have some lived experience to share as well as professional
Awesome Anne. Thank you so much for reaching out. I have passed on your details to Donald and I am sure that he will be in contact soon.
Happy to provide feedback – mother of an adult learner driver. I am very surprised to hear that anyone has music on with learner drivers of any ability/disability. I remember my own instructor telling me no radio until you have passed your test and feel 100% confident.
Thanks Georgina. I will let Donald know of your interest.
